If the margin says "where is your stand", that is the leak. A new title will not hide it.

Keep one comment and rewrite one paragraph

Open the last marked essay. Circle one comment. Rewrite only that paragraph so the comment is visible in the new sentences.

1. Open the last returned essay.
2. Circle one comment that names stand, reason, or example.
3. Rewrite only that paragraph.
4. Read it aloud. The comment should be audible without the margin note.

Do not rewrite the whole essay. Do not start a new generic title.

A first sentence such as "Schools should keep phones out of class because attention is the scarce resource" already shows a stand.

Stop when the comment is visible

Done: a reader who never saw the comment can still hear the stand, the reason, or the example. Not done: the paragraph is only shorter.

No grade promise. A shorter paragraph that still hides the stand fails.

If the rewritten paragraph still needs the margin note to make sense, it is not done. The stand must stand alone.
