Cut whole-sentence lifts first. What remains on an O-Level Paper 2 script are different faults: own-words that change meaning, effect answers with no quoted hold, extra clauses, and ignored stems such as "how" versus "why". Summary method is a different page and is not taught here. A lift is only the first failure mode.

Four post-lift faults worth logging

• Own-words miss: the paraphrase drops a necessary idea.
• Effect without hold: "it is effective" with no word from the line.
• Extra clause: a correct gist plus an invented reason.
• Ignored stem: you answered "what" when the question asked "how".

School papers may label items differently. Follow the stem in front of you. Recheck the current paper's instruction box before you treat any fault as official SEAB wording.

Log two faults from one passage, then stop

1. Mark only the questions you got wrong or half-wrong.
2. Tag each with one of the four faults.
3. Keep the two most frequent tags.
4. Write one fix: restore the dropped idea, add the hold word, delete the extra clause, or rewrite to the stem.
5. Close the paper. Do not sit a second passage tonight.

Example: the question asked how the writer shows impatience. Your gist was right, but you added "because he is a rude person". That extra clause is the fault. The fix is to delete it and keep the hold word from the line. SEAB item types must be rechecked on the current paper.
