When you freeze in an English meeting, you need a line that buys thinking time and one finished point. A long apology for your English spends the turn and still leaves the question unanswered.

Say the recovery line before you hunt for English

Use a recovery line, then finish one point. A usable line is: 'Give me a moment — I want to answer that clearly.' Silence after that line is thinking, not failure.

Say the line once. Do not stack “um” after it. Three seconds of quiet is easier for the room to accept than fifteen seconds of broken restart. You are not writing a speech. You are keeping the turn.

If the chair asks a two-part question, recover first, then pick the part you can answer. You do not owe a complete brief in the same breath.

Finish one point, then stop

Name one fact you already know, or one next step with a time. If you do not know, say so and name when you will return. Do not restart the whole answer.

Do not invent job data to fill the silence. A wrong figure is worse than a clean “I will check”.

Write two notes after the meeting: the line you used, and the point you finished. If you used the line but never finished a point, practise the second half on a 30-second voice note, not a new phrase list.
