General Paper Is Not One of the Six Named Courses

Parents who type JC English tuition still needed are often asking whether to keep a high-school English class after the O-Level year. General Paper is not one of iWorld Learning's six named courses. High School IGCSE / IB Preparation does not replace H1 syllabus 8881.

General Paper is not a named course

iWorld does not name a JC or General Paper course, so a JC booking cannot be read off the six-course list.

The courses index, checked 14 September 2026, names Adult Daily English, Business English, English for Young Children, Primary / Elementary School English, Middle School English, and High School IGCSE / IB Preparation. GP is not on that list. Do not invent a GP course name because a JC family is searching.

What High School IGCSE / IB actually prepares

High School IGCSE / IB Preparation supports international-exam academic English; it does not replace H1 General Paper 8881.

What 8881 asks, from today's SEAB list

SEAB's 2026 school-candidate list names General Paper as H1 syllabus 8881, with two papers taken at separate sittings, including a 500-to-800-word Paper 1 essay from eight questions.

Those numbers come from 8881_y26_sy.pdf, opened from SEAB's 2026 school-candidate list on 14 September 2026. The list was last updated on 28 August 2026. Paper 1 is 1 hour 30 minutes. Paper 2 is a separate sitting. Do not copy paper counts from older JC tuition articles on this site. If you need Paper 1 technique, that job already lives on the 8881 Paper 1 essay page.

Those two sittings are why a high-school academic-English hour cannot stand in for GP. Paper 1 asks for one long essay chosen from eight questions. Paper 2 asks for comprehension, summary, and an application task on a related theme. The High School page does not set those 8881 tasks. If you need the paper skill, use a GP source; if you need IGCSE or IB English, use the named High School course.

When a JC student should not book High School

A JC student should not book the High School course to cover GP; that course is for IGCSE or IB academic English, not 8881.

If the child has left the international-exam pathway and now sits GP, High School is the wrong product. If the child still needs IGCSE or IB academic English, High School can remain a fit for that work. That second case is a pathway remainder, not a GP substitute. There is no grade promise either way.
