Reshape Five PSLE Sentences Before You Add New Words

A new word on a repeated sentence still sounds flat. Tonight you take one paragraph — climax or ending — and reshape five sentences. New vocabulary waits until that pass. This is not a model-composition memory page, not a story-type chooser, and not a phrase-bank course.

Markers read rhythm as well as words. Five sentences that all open with "Then I" stay flat after you swap in "astonished". Variety is a change of opening, length, or join. Vocabulary comes after that change holds. There is no official quota of "good phrases". Forced vocabulary is a mark risk when sentence control is weak.

Take one paragraph, not the whole story

1. Choose the climax paragraph or the ending paragraph.
2. Number five sentences in that paragraph only.
3. Leave the rest of the composition closed.
4. Do not start a full rewrite.
5. If the paragraph has fewer than five sentences, stop at the number you have.

A full rewrite hides the variety problem. You will change plot instead of shape. Tonight the events stay. Only the sentence jobs move.

Give each sentence a different job

Keep the same events. Change at least three of these: opening word, sentence length, joining word, or speech versus narration. Fail if three sentences still start the same way, or if a join creates a run-on. Swapping synonyms without changing shape fails.

Flat: "Then I ran. Then I shouted. Then I grabbed the bag. Then I hid. Then I waited."

Pass: "I ran. 'Stop!' I shouted, and grabbed the bag. Behind the pillar, I hid. I waited."

The events did not change. The openings and lengths did. A short sentence after a long one is variety. A whole paragraph of the same short shape is the problem.

A new word may enter only after the reshape passes

• After a pass, add at most two words the child can explain aloud.
• The child must reuse each word in a new sentence, not only in the old line.
• If the explanation fails, the word stays out.
• A phrase bank is optional. It is not tonight's job.
• No AL promise comes from two new words.

Are short sentences a problem?

No. A short sentence after a long one is variety. A whole paragraph of the same short shape is the problem. Do not stretch every line to look "advanced".

How many new words after a pass?

At most two the child can explain. More wait for another night. A third word that needs a dictionary should stay in the bank.
