Decide the Oral Photo Script After One Follow-Up

Tonight is one oral-photo script, not a full mock. A memorised paragraph usually dies when the examiner asks a question the script did not predict. Show one photo. Ask one follow-up. Then keep, trim, or drop the paragraph.

A follow-up question is the real test

A memorised paragraph usually dies when the examiner asks a question the script did not predict. The mark is conversation, not recitation.

Parents collect model answers because they sound safe at the dining table. The school oral and PSLE conversation do not stay on that paragraph. The next question uses a detail the child just said, or a view the script never stored.

Do not invent official examiner scripts. Do not run five photos. One follow-up is enough to hear whether the child is talking or reciting.

Run one photo and one unexpected follow-up

Show one photo. Let the child speak for 40 to 60 seconds. Ask one follow-up that is not in the script. Keep the script only if the child can answer without restarting the paragraph.

  1. Pick one photo with people in it. A news photo or a school worksheet is enough.
  2. Let the child speak for 40 to 60 seconds. Do not interrupt.
  3. Ask one new question from what they said, such as "When did you last do that?"
  4. Listen for a new sentence. A restart of the memorised paragraph is a fail.

Do not run a full mock oral. Do not score pronunciation tonight.

Keep, trim, or drop after that one test

Pass: trim the script to three bullets the child can reuse. Fail once: try a second photo tomorrow. Fail twice: drop the paragraph and keep only a point, a reason, and one real example.

Three bullets are not a new speech. They are a point, a reason, and one example the child has actually lived. If the child cannot name an example, the script was covering a hole.

This is not model-composition memory

No. A model composition is written. An SBC script is spoken and must survive interruption. The P6 model-composition page is a different decision.

Can the spoken paragraph survive a new question?

Yes

Model composition

Should the child memorise a written story?

Another page

Five-minute oral routine

Reading plus photo talk as a habit

Another night

iWorld Learning's Primary School English page currently lists 3-6 person groups, 1-to-1 lessons, and a trial. Confirm live terms. No class promises an oral mark. Use a class only if three photo follow-ups still freeze after the script is closed.

FAQ

A short word bank is not a paragraph script.

Does a word bank count as a memorised script?

No. Three reusable words or a real example are tools. A paragraph that must be said in order is a script.

How many failed follow-ups drop the script?

Two different photos. One fail is a watch. Two fails close the paragraph.
