The Trial Counts Only If a Paper Fault Was Named

After a Primary 6 English trial, ask whether a paper fault was named and which marked task comes back this week. Watching the hour is useful. It is not the debrief.

Notes from the hour are not the debrief

Watching tells you whether the child spoke. The debrief tells you whether the teacher can name the paper fault.

You may already have notes from the watch-during-trial page or the in-class observation checklist. Those notes can say the child raised a hand or stayed quiet. They cannot say which Paper 1 or Paper 2 fault the teacher saw. Do not invent a trial score. A smile at the door is warmth. It is not a named fault.

Ask for the fault and the next marked task

Ask which Paper 1 or Paper 2 fault the teacher saw, and which marked task comes back this week. Write both answers.

1. Ask: which Paper 1 or Paper 2 fault did you see in this hour?
2. Write the answer in one sentence, or write none if the reply stays generic.
3. Ask: which marked task comes back this week for that fault?
4. Write that task, or write none. Stop. Two written answers are enough.

SEAB lists PSLE English Language as subject 0001 for 2026. That code names the national paper. It does not let a trial forecast an Achievement Level. If the teacher says “the child is around AL3”, treat that as a guess unless a Paper 1 or Paper 2 fault was also named.

Wait if the answers stay generic

Wait if the teacher only says the child needs more practice, or cannot name a next marked task.

• Book a second look only if both answers were named: a paper fault and a marked task that returns this week.
• Wait if the reply is “more practice”, “weak foundation”, or a level label with no fault.
• Wait if the teacher was warm but cannot say what comes back written.
